Garden Pictures

So my new hobby for the summer has been gardening, or as i like to call it: farming. Theres just something about playing in the mud that is therapeutic...either that or maybe I've just reached middle age a little sooner than normal.
The garden grew a little bit over the weekend...we now have:
9 Tomato plants of various varieties (Goliath, Early Girl's, Husky Cherries, Parker's Whoppers)
4 Zucchini
4 Squash
15 Green beans
10 Sugar snap peas
10 Sweet peas
10 Okras

Making Donuts

Today (yes! I finally am posting the same day I took the pictures!!), the girls and I made donuts. Real cake donuts from scratch! It was very fun. I was impressed by how well it worked. We made the dough and had to let it chill in the frige for 2 hours - just in time for the girls' quiet times. Once they were well rested we rolled out the dough and started cutting. Praise the Lord for donut cutters! Once we cut them, I fried them, then we dipped 'em in cinnamon and sugar. YUMMY!! We even got donut holes out of the deal. WOO HOO!

The flash from the camera is too bright, but Katie has flour all over her face.

The finished product!
They were very easy, Spence loved them, and the girls had fun playing in the flour! Me, I enjoyed the challenge of frying and actually succeeding. Wish you all can enjoy them too!

Chocolate Icing for Breakfast

So Daddy fixed Katie breakfast on Thursday, the 13th. This is what she got . . .

A bagel with chocolate frosting on it!!

Play Group with the Girls

Last Wednesday, the 12th, we hosted our play group. In an effort to keep the apartment from being flipped upside down by 6 little girls, we played with shaving creme. They had a blast and I managed to stay calm with the mess. :)

Spring Ballet Recital

Tuesday night was the girls' ballet recital. Such a fun night for us! Maddie and Katie were so excited. Me - well, we got to the chapel and out of the four slippers in my bag I couldn't find one. One slipper!! "What in the world!" (That's Maddie's newest phrase.). After looking around where the girls and I were sitting, I went sprinting back to the apartment following the same path I took only to get back to my bag in the chapel and find it sitting under the seat. Of course, it had to be there the whole time! Shortly after we solved that problem it was time to pray (the picture below - our girls are the two sitting to the right of the teacher), stretching and they were off to dance!

They did a great job. Katie's group was the cutest because they were the youngest. Maddie's group did an awesome job for being their second semester and recital. I'm excited for them to get older to see which one takes to which interest. Will they both pursue ballet, what sport will they want to play, will they want to play an instrument? It's so fun to think about the possibilities out there for them!

I posted little 10 second videos for each dance below. After the recital we ate pizza with the Bennett's and the Earman's who live in our building. Thier girls were also in the recital. We've had a fun semester of enjoying ballet together!

Spring Ballet Recital - Maddie

Here's a clip from Maddie's recital. She's at the end but it will take a second to see her once the little blonde girl moves.

Spring Ballet Recitals - Katie

Here's a short clip from Katie's dance. She's in the middle of the picture, 4th from the left, on the back row.

Katie's Art

A couple of weeks ago (yes, a couple of weeks ago, some day I may be quicker on my updates!) I left Katie at the table with some paper and crayons and when I came back this is what she made:

Up until now it's been all scribbles. I guess with all the stuff she sees Maddie doing she's got to keep up! She's even been writing her name. She does have a little advantage, it's all lines and no curves. All that to say - we're pretty impressed with our 3 year old! Way to go, Katie!

Mother's Day

What a beautiful day! Sundays are the best day to celebrate being a Mom. It's the day of rest, a day to put life's craziness-es aside and be together as a family. Our girls are amazing - so full of life and giggles. What more can a Mom ask for!

Our Garden

Our back patio has all this dirt space that we decided to put a garden in. Spence and the girls have planted tomatoes, squash, zucchini, okra, green beans, and peas. It's a daily event to go out and check on them to see how much they've grown.

Swinging Giggles

Just a quick video of the girls swinging on a swing at Grammy and Grandaddy's. I love hearing my girls giggle. It's the sweetest sound and one I wish will never change!

New Bathing Suits!

What an exciting morning . . . new bathing suits . . . picked to suit!
The girls are doing some ballet move too, but I can't remember which one. Ooops!

Quick Trip to the Black River

A few weeks ago, Spence lead a Bible study in Jonesboro for one of our Pastor's at IPC. That night we spent the night at the huntin' cabin since it was close by. The girls were thrilled!

They got to pick out which bed to sleep in . . . .
Hmmmmm . . . . such a decision.

The next morning we headed out to play before we headed back to St. Louis.

We took a ride on the huntin' boat. The girls got to help daddy drive and then they got to throw a couple of duck decoys in. (I forgot, we had to take the babies with us!)

The Girls of 418

Hey, All!
Just wanted to show you a picture of all the girls in our building (with one visitor, Violet on the far left, her Mommy is on bed rest for a little while). We've been doing a weekly play date on Wednesdays, rotating apartments, so that they can all play together and us moms get a short break. This picture was taken last week at Ella's house. Ella is to the left of Maddie. Like always, more fun!

Some fun Art from Maddie . . .

Thursday night we went to Maddie's school for an Art Festival. In Maddie's Little Pelican class they made fishes for their art project. Maddie's is the orange one.

Maddie brought this picture home from school this week. She's been drawing houses and stick people but this was the first picture where she drew each one of us inside of our house.
Way to go Maddie!

Random Easter Weekend Pictures

These are not in order at all, just wanted to share!

Maddie and Katie Easter morning coming in to get their baskets and presents from their Grandparents.

Saturday after the Easter Egg Hunt, Spence in all his competitiveness had to count how many eggs the girls got and sort out the candy!

This is my cousin, Beth, holding my cousin, Kristy's, new little guy.

Just Maddie entertaining herself and Anna while they are waiting in line.

Maddie and Katie waiting to come downstairs to get their Easter baskets. They waited so patiently and I'm sure were enjoying hanging their legs over the wall.

That's it . . . now that you have them in your head, you can file them into place as you look at the pictures below. :)

Easter in Cleveland

Here are pictures from our weekend in Cleveland for Easter. I uploaded the pictures backwards thinking I was doing them in the right order. Sorry they are backwards!

Sunday night . . . This is Bear, my Aunt Missy's dog. He's a hugely, large German Shepard. Uncle Rob called him up on the couch to sit down. Katie loved it. Both of the girls got the biggest kick out of Bear. They miss their animals but are so thankful that Grammy and Grandaddy are taking good care of them until Daddy finishes Seminary.

Easter Sunday Morning. We had beautiful weather in Cleveland the whole time we were there. (Kind of rare for this time of year up there.) It was so nice, we all had a hard time smiling correctly and looking at the camera without squinting. Very fun!!

The girls got lots of fun things for their Easter baskets from Mammie and Popo and Grammy and Grandaddy. But here is what they got from Daddy and Mommy.

We celebrated Easter on Saturday with most of my Mom's family (we're missing a few cousins) and then some of the Kisses. Below is a picture of my girls and their (second) cousins. Greyson is our newest addition. Congratulations Chad and Kristy!

The kids all did an Easter Egg Hunt (since the pictures are in backwards order, this is after the hunt). It was so fun for the girls to have their cousins to play with.

While waiting for the eggs to be hid, the kids got to dip marshmallows in chocolate and sprinkles. From left to right, Tommy, Gavin (in front), Michael (in back), Maddie, Katie, and Anna on the stool.

Happy Eater Egg Dying! (Glad we got to do this event at Mammie's house!!)

It's Been A Long Time . . . .

As you can see I have not been the most diligent at posting pictures to our blog. I guess part of it is because we've been busy. Just plain old busy!

Since Maddie's ballet recital at the beginning of December we have finished our first full semester, enjoyed Christmas with both sides of our family, rang in the New Year, Katie turned 3, enjoyed a nice long break in Memphis over January, started our Spring Semester in February, Maddie started back to ballet along with Katie, Spence celebrated his 28th birthday, got ourselves to Spring Break in Memphis and now we're headed to Cleveland to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord!

Our weeks start off crazy, Monday is our catch up day from the weekend and Tuesday is our long day. Spence starts the day running with class at 8:30 a.m. and ends it in class at 9 p.m. Maddie has preschool in the morning, while Katie and I stay home and take care of our neighbors' little boy. Once we pick Maddie up, we eat lunch, the girls have their quiet time followed by some play time and then off to ballet during the hour that Daddy is home which wonderfully lands over dinner time.

Spence has had tons of reading this semester. Lots of books!! Me - I've been working on discipling myself to exercise which inadvertently causes me to make better choices with the food I put in my mouth. (I needed help with that! Who knew God would give me the grace to exercise which would then give me the grace to eat better! Amazing!) I'm also working on finding time in my day to spend having my own quiet time with the Lord. Trying to plan my days out with those two things and all the other obstacles a Mom has is challenging, but that's where grace comes in at. If I can exercise, great . . . if I can work on my Bible study, even better . . . if I can't it's ok! God still loves me and I can sweat tomorrow!

The girls - well, they are just crazy and busy as ever! Ready for the warm weather and to play on our patio. We spent a day working on the rather huge flower bed we have, trying to make it a more productive place for us. We made part of it a garden, added some bricks to put our grill on, and made a place for the girls picnic table. Now the actual patio is open for the girls to ride their bikes, chalk, and play with their water table. They are very excited!!

I posted pictures from the last 4 months of our lives. It starts with Christmas and goes thru now except I posted Maddie's choir from Palm Sunday last so it would be first. I had to show off my 4 year old!

Maddie's Palm Sunday Choir

Here is a short video of Maddie on Palm Sunday singing in the children's choir at church on Palm Sunday. They were all so cute and it was so sweet!

Happy Easter!

Christmas Time!

During the Christmas Season we did lots of fun things . . .

Here are the girls in their dresses.

The girls taught their friends and babies all about Baby Jesus's Birthday.

Maddie got to help wrap Daddy's presents. She did a great job and was a huge help!

Maddie got to sing in the children's Christmas pageant at church. She's the pink shirt in the middle looking behind her.
We made cards out of glitter and cookie cutters for our cousins. (Thanks Emilee and Caroline for the great idea!)

The girls also got to decorate a lot of cookies and in this picture they are dipping pretzel sticks in chocolate and then in sprinkles. They had lots of fun and I survived the mess.

We celebrated Christmas just the four of us the day before Christmas Eve. Santa even came the night before as a special request. And people wonder how Santa makes it to every child's home in one night! Our day was filled with opening presents, eating lots of food, hanging out and watching our new movies (Tinker Bell and Mary Poppins).

Here was our special little tree - I picked it up on clearance at Target the year before for $5 after Christmas was over. It only fell over a couple of times but I eventually figured out how to prop it up. It's always fun to see all the presents wrapped and placed under the tree. It was sad as the morning went on, the presents got pulled from the tree to be opened by the girls and then the rest to be divided into family stacks.

The girls love their baby dolls and new accessories are always a winner.

For Christmas Eve and Christmas Day we went to Memphis to spend Eve with the Garey side of the family and Day with Grammy, Grandaddy, Aunt Holley and Uncle Luke and Rob.

Baby Jesus is Born!

Aunt Holley and Uncle Luke
Here is a picture of Uncle Luke tidying up . . .

Grammy opening up her special present from Maddie.

The day after Christmas we headed up to Cleveland to have Christmas with Mammy and Popo.
First we opened presents with my parents and my brother and sister-in-law.
!

Uncle Rob

We made a big, fun mess! Can't get any better than that!

Then we had our Christmas with the Kisses. These are most of my cousins.

The girls enjoyed our first real snow fall of the season at my parents' house. The snowman later got ran over.

Can't forget the snow angels.

Attempt at Snowman #2. The girls loved the snow. Having grown up in it, I can live without. I feel bad saying this, but I'm glad we missed all of the other snowfalls that came across the country this winter. It seemed like no matter where the snow fell, StL or Memphis, we would leave before it came. There will be more next year!
